Milk is one of the most commun food products in people diet, starting with the birth people consume breast milk and in childhood they begin to consume milk coming from animals, mainly cow and goat milk.

The main reason for the success of milk as a food product is that it is rich in calcium, and is the product from which we absorb the most this substance that is essential for human growth and a strong health. But in order to consume milk at home riskless, it has to go through some industrial processes that ensure its purity and the highest quality at which it will reach the stores where we buy it from.

One of the fundamental processes is the filtration, in which milk is separated from impurities like hair, straw and cow dunk, this can be done with a grid.

In the clarifying process the latest tecniques use membrane bioreactors (also known as MBR) in order to separate possible solid elements and sediments (such as dust or dirt particles) that we are not supposed to consume and that might appear in milk. Due to the fact the particles are so small, they cannot be filtered with the traditional grid, excepting the situations wher there are required ceramic membranes for proper disposal. There are a lot of universities that investigate these techniques using membrane bioreactor in order for this industrial process to be of an excellent quality.

Since Pasteur is making investigation of the purification of dairy milk foods their evolution has not stopped to eliminate the pathogenic microorganism from milk and reach its maximum purity. Other industrial processes in which there have been made a lot of advances using also membranes, in processes of eliminating cream from whole milk, skim or in semi-side, so that the fat content is lessened and not as fattening as regular milk.
